Lakes Region Corvettes News |
Note From Dwight!!!

As Lake George-2008 goes into the record books and fades into history, I would like to take a few moments to recap the weekend.
On Friday, September 5th, 2008, promptly at 9 a.m., 10 hearty souls departed the Lakes Region for our clubs yearly cruise to Lake George.
The Tylers
The Senecals
The Bowens
The Poehlmans
The Dodds
The weather forecast of rain gave some members second thoughts about attending. Boys and girls, the weather on Friday was magnificent. It was sunny with temperatures in the high 80’s and low 90’s. The cruise was pretty much standard with our pit stop at the Springfield Rest Area and lunch at Applebee’s in Rutland, Vermont. We decided to take a right on Route 22 in Whitehall, New York and go north to Ticonderoga which would give us the beautiful ride south on Route 9N. For those of you that don’t recall, that takes us through all the little villages, Hague, Bolton’s Landing etc.and travels along the shore of Lake George.
Coming into the Village of Lake George, it was not difficult sensing we had arrived. The smoke of freshly burned rubber filled the air and the pungent aroma of nitromethane, which had been mixed with gasoline, was for all to enjoy. I guess I haven’t picked up the smell of nitrous oxide yet but it is probably a colorless, tasteless, odorless gas anyway.
Friday evening we enjoyed a sumptuous coalation at the Log Jam. The food was great and the drinks were better. In the parking lot at the Log Jam, Bob Poehlman and I noticed a very familiar looking 57 Corvette with a blower sticking up through the hood. YUP, Big Tim was in the Jam! Well to get things going, Poman taps Tim on the shoulder and said “ excuse me, Sir, but I just backed into a 57 Corvette, in the lot” ! Tim turned and said “ that’s OK, it happened last year, too!!! Speaking of the Poman . . . he was in rare form this weekend. Our blessings Lin !!!
Friday nights plan was interrupted when we tried to go into the beach area, the back way and got BUSTED. It seems to me the Sheriff was up the hill a little more than usual, near the pizza joint parking. We rode around awhile, looked at all the sights and called it a night.
We had some pretty substantial rain through the night and in the early morning. After breakfast, yes, a buffet breakfast the way it has been for years, the rain stopped and we were able to walk around, check the vendors and take in the show. We got in a good half day before the rain started again. It was a great time for R and R. So back to the hotel we went and vegged out.
More to follow . . .

Notes from "Poman"
As you know the weather for the 3 day trip was iffy for Saturday and this caused the cancellation of 2 cars.
Friday morning broke and the sun rose across the NH sky like a big a$$ bird...it was simple gogreous and the remaining 5 cars headed toward N.Y. With the usuall potty and food stops we arrived at Lake George around 3:30 and the cruise out was one of the best. The weather was perhaps the best that the 2008 summer had provided and we all made it safe and sound.
We all washed up and headed for the Log Jam Rest where we dinned on everything from steak to Baked stuffed haddock. Being the disaplined members that we are we choose not to have dessert at this time.
At this point we all climbed into out cars and drove downtown to show off our cars and do a few massive burnouts. Once again all went well and we headed back down Route 9 to get ice cream, sign autographs, and do a few photo shoots.
Te next morning brought rain showers so after refueling our tummies with omlets and donuts we drove back downtown where weather person "Nippy" forcast was very accurate and the majority of the day was rain free and we were able to enjoy the car show, vender tables and of coarse some carefully chosen watering/food establishments to renurish our by then weaken bodies.
Sat. nite came with the group goping in all directions and the rain at this time was steady...BUT the show did go on and being the troopers that we are just incorporated all this fun into a wet tee shirt contest...Dave Senecal won... and swimming back at the indoor pool. Sunday morning was sun filled and after downing 50-60Lbs of morning staples, raw horsepower once again drew us back to the car show. We witnessed a few young fellows just making fools of themselves by smoking perfectly good tires and a Dodge Super Bee almost devoired a slow moving Corvair.
By 11am we all "raced" back to the hotel and made the final arrangements to drive back to NH.
The drive back to Quchee lead by the Dodds was nothing short of great, the Bowens, Tylers, Poehlmans and Senecals had pulled off another fun filled trip to Lake George.
Oh ya, we ran into Karyn Paulsens parents, and I gotta tell you those people know how to party. Her father smoked the back tire off his car until there was nothing left but the steel belts. We only wish he had Lee's car.
Thanks to all who made this trip a wonderful weekend......and if anybody out there has a a Chevy engine they want to give a good home... I am your guy. I have a SS Chevelle in need of a radical motor to rock Lake George next year.
Respectfully submitted,
Poman the Showman

Nominations for LRCC Officers!!!!!
Hello LRCC Members ---It is that time of year when nominations for Club Officers and Committee Members is approaching. It has been a very busy year and as is the case next year looks to be just as busy. We have a large club and it takes much effort to keep it running. The Board needs many people to help make our club activities successful. Please, consider helping out even if you are someone who leaves the area for the winter --- much of the work can be accomplished on the computer in order to get the events ready for spring and summer. Also. any ideas that you may have for an event please get the information to us.
Please read the list below and see if there is anyway you can help or possibly know of someone who you think might be willing to do a certain job/position. If you should chose to nominate someone we would like you to ask them if they are willing to do the job before you send their name to the Board.
We are looking for the following positions ---
Vice President
Members for the Activities Committee and possibly 6 or 7 people who think they would be interested in planning one of our events/trips for next year (The Board would tell you some of the information you would need to set up for the event with dates and parameters for setting that event)
Also, just because the Board is not saying that there are not any other openings on the Board does not mean that other people can not be nominated for those positions.
Sadly I have to pass on to you that Paul Rocheford is stepping down as Vice President due to some work related issues and we will be needing someone to “fill his shoes”. Bob Tyler and Reggie Bowen will also not be working on Activities. These men have been a great asset to our club and their efforts and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
The full slate of Officers encompasses the following:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Member-At Large
Activities Committee Chairman and Members – these members report to the Board but do not need to be present at the Board Meetings
Nominations need to be sent to the Board c/o Cheryl Barton (sales@johnscorvette.com) by September 30, 2008 --- The Board will then set up a slate of officers and present it to the Club at our October Meeting. We are still able to accept nominations from the floor at this meeting.
October Monthly Meeting/Nominations--- October 4, 2008 – Homestead Restaurant – 5-6PM Social Hour/Order off of the menu. y Meeting/VOTING --- November 15, 2008 – Hart’s Turkey Farm – 5-6PM Social Hour
December Monthly Meeting –- December 6, 2008 -- Makris – Christmas Party (Choice of meal from three set dinners)
If you have any questions or need help understanding what we are looking for please get back to any of us and we will try and help you.
Thank you in advance for your understanding,
Linda-Lee Scott/Secretary

A note from Dwight at this point --
I will be attending the Vettes To Vets function on Sunday, September 28, 2008, and will also set up the trip for the club. Off the cuff, I anticipate we will have a group leaving New Hampton and meeting others at the southbound Rest Area/Liquor Store in Hooksett. We will also have a provision to pick up those who would like to meet at the Bedford Toll. We will not stop at the Bedford Toll. Those members should be ready to pull out as we exit the toll plaza.
Think about this day and we hope many of you will decide to attend!!!!

Foliage Trip, October 18th
We’ll be taking a scenic ride to Vermont for lunch at Peavine Restaurant in Stockbridge, VT. We’ve been there several times, it’s a nice ride over, and their lunches have been good.
We’ll be leaving at 9:00AM from the Exit 23 Plaza parking area, off of exit 23 on Rt 93. For those from the south who’d prefer, there will be a group leaving at 9:15 from the McDonald’s in Warner, off of exit 9 on Rt 89. Both groups will meet at the rest area on Rt 89 north, just a bit north of exit 12A.
After lunch we’ll continue on through Woodstock, VT and then we’ll head on through Quechee, with an optional stop at the shops at Quechee Gorge Village for a pit stop and whatever else you find interesting before getting to Rt 89, where everyone can use their favorite route to head on home.
Please email Cheryl Barton at sales@johnscorvette.com ASAP if you’re planning on going so we can have a rough count for the restaurant.
Hope to see you there !!!!!!!

This trip will be a little different in that we’re not telling you where we’re going. Are you a bit apprehensive? Where’s your sense of adventure? I can tell you that we’ll be taking a nice ride, to a nice destination, with a group of friends and we’ll have a fun time. I can also tell you that I’ve been to this destination a number of times and I think it will work out well for our group.
We’ll be leaving around 9:00AM from the Lakes Region. We’ll finalize the exact time and place a little later. From there we’ll take a nice ride along an undisclosed route to an undisclosed place where we’ll have lunch. For lunch you’ll pay on your own.
After lunch we’ll continue our ride along another undisclosed route, arriving at our undisclosed location in the latter part of the afternoon. Here you’ll have a chance to use the facilities, including an indoor pool and other amenities, before we have dinner, which is included in the package price. The package price for the room, dinner and breakfast is $205 for a couple or $166 for a single. This includes all taxes and fees, except housekeeping. Beverages from the bar are on your own.
On Sunday, after a breakfast that is included in the package price, we’ll take a leisurely ride along another undisclosed route to another undisclosed location for lunch. Again, for lunch you’ll pay on your own. After lunch, we’ll all head for home.
We need to provide our destination a count by October 1st. After that any late additions will be subject to availability.

Progressive Lunch – May 31, 2008
What a fun event – truly typical of a LRCC Dream day – We drove – we ate – we drove again – ate lots more – drove even further – and yes we ate again! PERFECT!!!
Our day started at Sue and Dave Senecal’s in Wolfeboro where we enjoyed an abundance of fabulous appetizers.
We were then on to Marge and Tony Romano’s in New Hampton for a festive and marvelous lunch.
To conclude our day we went to Paul and Eileen LaBrecque’s on Newfound Lake for spectacular desserts.
Friendship, laughter and camaraderie were the key words for the day. We are all so fortunate to belong to a group where everyone loves to be together doing all those fun things that make life so very special. Thanks go to our hostesses/hosts for allowing us to mingle in their homes --- they all opened their doors to us and we had a fabulous time! Also, thanks to all who brought their delicious food to each stop – it takes all of you to make each of these events a success.

Parade of Vettes – June 6-8, 2008
When you have 47 cars registered from NH and VT what happens? An unbelievable week-end!!!!
Food, driving, games, gifts and friends – new and old – that is what you get when you join us for such an event. I think we even got some laughs and ooh’s and aah’s as we drove through some great little towns on our way North to Maine. Ayah that’s where we went.
We met at Fosters in Plymouth, NH --- ate (a good beginning) and then headed north(?) – stayed at a fabulous Inn with outdoor heated pool and couches in the elevators (strangest thing we have ever heard of)– had a fabulous meal at a local roadhouse --- drove to Carrabassett Valley – some stopped for Ice Cream in Rangeley on their way back ---(They say it was for a “potty” break but many know better) – had an evening of great games – went to Bob Bahrs private collection of cars and had a tour and of course to round out our day before we had to say good by to all of our friends we laughed and ate!!!!! Thanks to the Events Committee and the Gift Committee for a well planned week-end – and who will forget our own Bob Tyler and his dice!!! or Paul Rocheford with his new driving partner!!!

Mid Coast Maine – June 21-22, 2008
Fourteen cars headed out for an overnight adventure to Camden/Rockland, ME. An adventure it was as we all got to see some beautiful areas of Maine, Mt. Battie, ships in Camden Harbor, and a visit to the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Bryan and Jayne Bailey even went off for a sail -- we have not heard if they have gotten back yet and knew that Bryan was going to help sail this ship so we all hope all went well. The group even participated in their own Golf Classic --- not to out do Tiger Woods but we certainly had some pretty spectacular Miniature Golf tactics – we washed some of the balls, went hunting in the trees and had some stuck under the bridges --.but in the end the owner/manager said he would open early for us if we wanted another “T’ time before we left. In all seriousness --he did say that he had never seen a group have such a good time together and he thoroughly enjoyed having us. We left for home – stopped for a great lunch at the “Taste of Maine” and headed out into the rain. What a ride home but after checking in with many I know we all made it home safely. Thanks for a great time!!

Weekend trip to Camden & Rockland ME
June 21 &22
Boy, we had a full & fun weekend! Saturday was a top down ride via secondary roads first to lunch at Landings Restaurant on the waterfront in Rockland, ME, then a drive up to the summit of a Mt Battie (on a paved road). We had a beautiful view of the ocean and Camden & Rockport harbor. There was a tower up there with stairs to the top for an even better view. We stayed at the Country Inn in Camden. The rooms were very comfy & clean. A bunch of us went down to the indoor heated pool & hot tub to relax a bit before supper. We went to a pub up the street for supper & had another good meal. Following dinner, a bunch of Tiger Wood's wannabes, played a solid round on miniature golf next to the Inn. Sunday morning had a lazy start & we went to the Owl's Head Transportation Museum. That was a nice take & some of us even got a ride in a 1915 Model T Ford! How exciting! I was impressed with the comfort of the ride on a well designed suspension! Of course lunch was next & we went to A Taste Of Maine on the coast of Bath for that. Of the 14 cars that made up the entire group, Everyone headed off in groups or solo to home or other adventures. We ended up in a group of 4 cars that were going in the same direction as us toward home. During this ride we ran into thunder storms & heavy rain but up to that point we had great weather so we really didn't care. To finish the day right, this small group stopped in Northwood, NH for an ice cream at Johnson's Dairy Bar!! We said our farewells & went our separate ways. All told, we drove just under 400 miles & even though it was only 2 days, it felt like many more, in a good way, with all the driving, food & fun!! Life is good!!
Hat's off to Paul Rocheford & Bob & Nippy Tyler for a well planned trip.
